NOIR at THE Lisbon and Porto

This May, NOIR Mud Silk enters the windows of THE in Lisbon and Porto with a series of textile installations by Marcella Echavarria, created in dialogue with one of China’s rarest ancestral fabrics: mud silk.

The collaboration feels deeply natural. THE, founded by Teresa Pimentel and Helena Almeida Santos, has always approached fashion as something intimate, expressive, and enduring, far from the logic of passing trends.

“When I discovered THE, I felt an immediate affinity with Teresa and Helena’s world. There is a shared belief in clothing as something intimate, expressive, and enduring. NOIR Mud Silk belongs naturally in that space. It is not about trend. It is about time, material, gesture, and the quiet power of what is made slowly.”

For this installation, THE’s windows become public-facing textile landscapes, inviting passersby to encounter mud silk not only as clothing, but as material culture, image, presence, and living tradition.

The Lisbon installation opens at THE Rua Castilho 65C on May 25, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, as part of Castilho Art Week and ARCO Lisbon Art Week, and remains on view until June 28.

The Porto installation opens at THE Avenida Brasil 446 on May 28, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a vernissage and talk by Marcella Echavarria, also remaining on view until June 28.
